The Ultimate Labor Day Cookout Checklist

Labor Day has a funny way of turning “we’re just grilling a few burgers” into a backyard full of people, three bags of chips and someone asking if anybody remembered the ice. That’s exactly why I put together this Ultimate Labor Day Cookout Checklist!

Whether you’re planning a big backyard BBQ, a family potluck or a simple dinner on the patio, this checklist covers everything from grilling favorites and easy cookout sides to drinks, desserts and those little party supplies that are so easy to forget.

Keep the Menu Simple

You don’t need to make everything on the list. Choose one or two meats for the grill, a few easy sides, something cold to drink and a simple dessert. Burgers, BBQ chicken, corn on the cob, potato salad, watermelon, sweet tea and brownies would make a delicious Labor Day menu without keeping you in the kitchen all day.

Set up the toppings and condiments on one tray, fill the cooler before guests arrive and keep foil, trash bags, bug spray and extra ice nearby. A little preparation means you can actually relax, enjoy your food and visit with everyone instead of running back and forth to the kitchen.

The best Labor Day cookouts aren’t fancy. They’re about good food, cold drinks, kids running through the yard and everyone staying outside until the mosquitoes finally win.

Save or print this Labor Day Cookout Checklist, invite your favorite people and enjoy one last big taste of summer!
