Halloween Date Night Ideas

Halloween date nights are one of my favorite ways to make the season feel a little more special. You don’t need an elaborate plan or an expensive night out, either. Some of the best fall dates are simple things you can do at home or around town with a little Halloween twist.

Whether you want something cozy, spooky or just an excuse to spend time together, here are 12 Halloween date night ideas to try this season.

1. Carve Pumpkins Together

Pick out a couple of pumpkins, spread some newspaper across the kitchen table and have a pumpkin carving night. You can each create your own design or turn it into a friendly competition. Roast the pumpkin seeds afterward for an easy snack.

2. Have a Halloween Movie Marathon

Pile up the blankets, make a big bowl of popcorn and spend the evening watching your favorite Halloween movies. Mix nostalgic Halloween classics with something scary, or stick with lighthearted movies if horror isn’t your thing.

3. Visit a Haunted House or Scare Attraction

If you both enjoy being scared, make a night out of visiting a local haunted house, haunted trail or other Halloween attraction. Grab dinner beforehand or stop somewhere for dessert afterward to turn it into a full date night.

4. Get Lost in a Corn Maze

A nighttime corn maze is such a fun fall date, especially when the weather finally cools down. Look for a local farm that also has pumpkins, food, games or other fall activities so you can spend the whole evening there.

5. Make Spooky Cocktails at Home

Skip the crowded bar and make Halloween drinks together at home. Pick a couple of fun seasonal recipes, grab some cute glasses and Halloween garnishes and make your own little spooky cocktail night. Mocktails work just as well!

6. Have a Bonfire and Make S’mores

Cool weather, a warm fire and s’mores are pretty hard to beat. Set up a fire pit in the backyard, bring out some blankets and spend the evening talking by the fire. You could even try different chocolates or flavored marshmallows for your s’mores.

7. Go on a Hayride

Find a local pumpkin patch, farm or fall festival offering evening hayrides. Some are peaceful and cozy while others turn into haunted hayrides after dark, so you can choose exactly how spooky you want your date to be.

8. Bake Halloween Treats Together

Pick a Halloween dessert you’ve both been wanting to try and make it together. Decorate sugar cookies, dip caramel apples, make Halloween brownies or put together a batch of spooky cupcakes. The decorating doesn’t have to be perfect — that’s half the fun.

9. Decorate for Halloween Together

Turn decorating into its own date night. Put on a Halloween playlist, order pizza and decorate the house or porch together. You can even make a few inexpensive DIY decorations to add to your collection each year.

10. Go to a Drive-In Movie

If you can find a local drive-in showing Halloween movies, take advantage of it! Bring blankets, pillows and your favorite movie snacks and settle in for a cozy movie night from the car. A scary movie is even better once it gets dark.

11. Check Out a Local Fall Festival

Spend an afternoon or evening wandering through a fall festival together. Look for pumpkin patches, food vendors, live music, carnival games, local markets and seasonal treats. It’s an easy date when you want to get out of the house without making a complicated plan.

12. Take a Nighttime Stroll and Enjoy the Halloween Decorations

Sometimes the simplest date is one of the best. Grab a coffee or hot chocolate and walk or drive through neighborhoods with great Halloween decorations. Pick your favorite houses, enjoy the cooler evening weather and soak up a little spooky-season atmosphere.

Make a Halloween Date Night Tradition

You could even turn this list into a yearly Halloween tradition and choose a few different dates every October. Some nights can be big outings while others can be as simple as Halloween movies and popcorn on the couch.

Same dates, a little more spooky and a lot more fun.
